The Archive & OK200

I have been in contact with OK200 since going to see them last summer, they have been nice enough to always get back to me and help me out where I need. As well as give feedback on some of the things I send out to studio.

Filthy media Brighton

I have been in contact with one of my favourite studio's since starting this course and they are also busy helping me out with my Archive project. They said that they are fully booked till september but I will continue to stay in contact with them and hopefully sort something out towards the end of the year.

CV & work Samples

I had more success with this mail out, even if it was just a few reply's it was much better than what I got from the other mail out. I will continue sending this out untill the rest of my final major project is done and then I will redesign it to be more up to date.

BCN : MCN Exhibition

Mid February I had a trip planned to Manchester to visit a friend, the BCN : MCN talks were on at the same time, sadly I tried to get tickets but they sold out within 20mins so i couldnt... I did however go to the exhibition which was good but would of preferred to see the talks

YCN submission

A finished project submitted to YCN. Loved collaborating with Dan Holroyd, he is definitely one of the good ones from DFGA at our university.

Studio mail out

A studio mail out I send to a few studio's but did not get much or any reply from this sadly. I decided to attached and create a CV based mail out after the failure of this one.

Design Museum

The Design museum was great, especially the section which was 'Best of 2012'. I didnt take many photo's in there but i took notes of some of the best work I saw and I was pleasantly surprised to see the dutch winning a lot of prizes for their clean no nonsense typographic work.

Creative Review interview

I went to an interview with Paul Pensom during Easter. His a really nice guy and I appreciated the time he gave me to go over my portfolio as I could tell his a very busy man. The interview lasted for about 20 - 25 minutes and it was mainly me talking through my portfolio and him asking me a few questions but I think its a case of him seeing how I could hold my own.

He e-mailed me back the next week and offered me a internship on the 3rd of June to work on the July issue of Creative Review but due to working at the digital print room I couldn't take time off and it would also take away my last month at uni and final year show something I could not miss. I believe that I will hopefully get an internship later in the year as I will keep him updated with some of my final major projects as I finish them up.

Tumblr Accounts

The First tumblr account I own is for my work but also the stuff I do out of studio. like screenprints for friends, exhibitions I go to, bit from projects at uni, photography. Basically an overflow to my website but much more casual.

The Archive is a place where I overflow anything none graphic design mainly art based and other inflaunces, this has been set up to record some things which will be put in my Archive publication.

Website

Pages from my website. This is my professional platform, its clean nothing casual, my work and details about it.

PPD Task 2

Identify 5 companies/studios which you consider potentially synergetic to you personally. Write a short explanatory paragraph and reasons for each.

  1. Made by Shape
  2. Glorious Creative
  3. She was only
  4. May Ninth
  5. Ok200

Identify the top choices and Why you feel that they may have synergy with your practice now, or in the near future.

My choices are in order, I feel that I have some things in common with all of these studio's however little, some more than others but mainly I feel that I could with more experience get to the level these studios are on and work for them hopefully by the time I finish the course.

Is your choice based on:

My choice is mainly based on location as 3 are located in Manchester which would be close enough to commute for a placement or 1 day a week. 1 is located in London which shows my aim to eventually move down there when I get out of the north mainly due to the high amount of jobs available down south. My last choice is based in Amsterdam, which doesn't make much sense but I still keep contact with them and would one day if I had enough money make the trip again if its worth it.

All of the above studio's have a simular style of working, maybe not entirely the same brand philosophy but there are a lot of similarities running through them all. If anything they are all slightly modernist aesthetic studio's who focus on print and minimal, logic, clear design.

What if none of those is your main reason for choosing to follow this organization, what is it specifically?

All the studio's above are fairly small in size, they are seem to have a lot more individual input into their projects and this really shine through onto their design practice instead of being a large advertising agency. They generally work with print and photography a lot and extend their projects onto web and digital platforms. I am planning on contacting them because I find similarities in their practise which overlaps into my own. I am contacting them all to either get feedback on my current work asking for advice how I can change my own practise to suite them for potential future employment, I am also asking for internships and short work placements.

They should listen to me, because i'm not going to leave them alone until they do.
